We youths are failing Nigeria

It is insane how Nigerians are giving no attention to the embattled human right activist Omoyele Sowore who was recently re-arrested after being granted bail by the federal high court in Abuja on Friday. The department of state services, commonly known as DSS, raided the courtroom to carry out this unspeakable and unlawful act yet; no one wants to talk about it. It's a big shame to all of us as Nigerians.

This was a man who was speaking up for the masses whose voice can't be heard, and yet he was firstly arrested under dubious charges by a mad man in power and no one deemed it fit to rally or lend a voice of support for him to force the government to free him, then the courtroom drama took place on Friday right after been granted bail by the judge.

It is unreal to term the government ruling methods as democratic instead; it is to be termed fascism or autocratic. Every Nigerians have something to say regarding the issue yet we choose to stay mute to avoid encountering a fate like that of Sowore or even worst. Instead, we distract ourselves with other invaluable events that won't matter in years to come, and we neglect issues that will affect us and others after us.

Although, I am a fan of Cardi B and her Music's and her arrival to Nigeria will also bring more attention to this country but how could such event that won't even have an impact on lives be what most young people out their want to talk about all day on all social media platforms. None of this youth or so-called Nigerians is trying to show support or talks about what is Happening to Sowore currently, it' saddens me as a Nigerian, and it shows how misplaced our priorities are.

We have become a mere subject to our so-called leaders as they know that no one is willing to stand up for his/herself, talkless of standing up for someone else. They see themselves more as "god", and we should always bow to every word said by them. We take pleasure in turning a deaf ear and blind eye to these events so as not be made scapegoat, yet we are all suffering from the actions of this person in power.

Going to end this article for now with a statement which reads "we can't be a slave to fear rather we should embrace it, only then are we going to be free". Nigerians might think not speaking up is a smart choice, but it is the worst decision that could ever be made in a lifetime as our muteness could cause more damages than bring rewards.
